Letter to Our Pastor - “Please Retain the Altar Rail and Permit its Use”

“Please Retain the Altar Rail and Permit its Use”

December 20, 2025

Dear Father _________________:

In light of the fact that the General Instructions of the Roman Missal indicates, and Redemptionis Sacramentum (nn. 90-91) repeats, that the faithful have a right to kneel to receive Holy Communion, I respectfully request that you halt the implementation of Bishop Martin’s “Pastoral Letter on Holy Communion,” issued December 17, 2025 and labeled Prot. No. B 339/25, in regards to the restrictions on the use of Altar Rails.

The prohibition of the use of Altar Rails, contained within Prot. No. B 339/25, by its very nature hinders those who choose to exercise their right to kneel to receive Holy Communion but cannot do so due to some physical limitations.

A decree that denies the exercise of a right denies the right itself.

Please be advised that I have also officially initiated the Recourse Against an Administrative Decree regarding Bishop Martin’s Prot. No. B 339/25 and am also writing directly to the Holy See as that has become necessary given 1) the Bishop’s clear desire to remove legitimate and traditional expressions of piety and reverence from the Sacred Liturgy in the Diocese, contrary to the norms and traditions of Holy Mother Church, and 2) the slow process involved with such Recourse which may not effectively prevent him from implementing this unjust law.

I make this request to you, dear Father, out of love for the Holy Eucharist, but also out of a desire to be able to exercise the right to kneel to receive Communion as laid out in the liturgical law of the Church. I formally request that any decision to remove, or prohibit the use of, the altar rails at our parish be suspended until this recourse is complete.

Sincerely,

Your Child in Christ,
